LP - Reports - Dinamo Cambridge
Boston's 'Reports' hits the ground running with it's first full-length since 2007's 'Mosquito Nets' with 'Dinamo Cambridge' jumping in head-first on the A-side with a crashin 'n' bashin' combo of Nineties indie (Archers Of Loaf, Smoking Popes, a lil' GBV) mixed with a healthy dose of the NOW (read: the ramshakle hooks of, say - Tyvek or Times New Viking - or even a more earnest, less "post-apocalyptic"/paranoid Iceage?). The lo-fi of the recording belies some big hooks, but something very interesting happens on the B-side... the 12-minute jam the LP is named after - "Dinamo Cambridge" (worth the price of admission all by itself) is a motorik, repetitive psychedelic jam that reminds us of a more guitar-y Moon Duo, or early Cave - these dudes dig deep into the pocket and ride the grove 'till the side's almost over. With a track like that, it makes us wonder what sonic future is in store for these guys. Word on the street sez that these are pretty much sold out from the source, so grab it quick-like - limited to 150 copies with paste-on silkscreened sleeves makes this a tasty treat for the hungry record-buyer! RECOMMENDED.
